Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 2026
Wisp is built on the idea that honest conversations need safe spaces. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it.
What we collect
- Account information you provide when signing up — email address, gender (optional), and the public and anonymous personas you create.
- Content you post — posts, comments, and messages you send through the app.
- Usage data — basic analytics such as which screens you visit and when, collected to improve the product. We do not sell this data.
- Device information — device type, OS version, and a push notification token if you grant permission, used solely to deliver notifications.
How we use it
- To operate and improve Wisp — serving your feed, delivering messages, sending notifications, and fixing bugs.
- To keep the platform safe — detecting spam, abuse, and violations of our Community Guidelines.
- To communicate with you — sending service-related emails (account recovery, policy updates). We do not send marketing emails.
Anonymous mode
- Wisp is built around anonymity. When you post or chat anonymously, your real identity (username, email) is never exposed to other users.
- Your anonymous persona is stored on our servers and linked to your account internally so you can be held accountable for serious violations. This link is never surfaced to other users.
Data sharing
- We do not sell your personal data to anyone, ever.
- We use a small number of third-party services to operate Wisp: MongoDB Atlas (database), Render (hosting), Sentry (crash reporting), and Firebase (push notifications). Each is bound by their own privacy policies and data processing agreements.
- We may disclose data if required by law or to protect the safety of our users.
Data retention
- Your account data is retained for as long as your account is active.
- If you delete your account, your personal information and public posts are permanently deleted within 30 days. Messages in shared conversations are deleted within the same window.
- Anonymous posts are deleted immediately on account deletion.
Your rights
- You can request a copy of the data we hold about you at any time by emailing us.
- You can request deletion of your account and all associated data by emailing us or using the delete account option in the app.
- You can opt out of push notifications at any time through your device settings.
Children
- Wisp is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
- We may update this policy as Wisp evolves. We will notify users of material changes via an in-app notice. Continued use of Wisp after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
